What a year at Belly Dance Arabesque!

What a year it has been! There has been no shortage of exciting things happening this year on the timetable in class and in our dance world.

We were very active in the charity arena this year with Belly Dance Arabesque supporting many fundraisers in Adelaide through donations of vouchers to auction at fundraising events and donations of entertainment. A new charity for us this year was the “Dress a girl around the world” organisation, a group of dedicated ladies who sew dresses and shorts for children living in areas of poverty around the world. The Arabesque community cleared out their sewing cupboards and donated enough fabric for the group to make 60 garments which is a fantastic effort!

One of our proudest events this year was the Ladies Day High Tea held in May to raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation and the Ovarian Cancer Foundation. Lots of hard work and fundraising went into making the High Tea a fabulous event which not only raised awareness for Breast and Ovarian Cancer but through the kind donations of many sponsors, bakers and helpers managed to raise $3,200.00 for the charities. It was a fabulous afternoon of tea, cake and of course dancing, thank you to everyone involved.

The year has been full of fabulous shows from the Divine Elements Belly Dance Company’s show “Legend of the Sirens” in the Adelaide Fringe, our two “Hip to Hip” nights at the Quiets Waters Lebanese Restaurant and of course our main event “Spring in the Harem” in September. Along with our regular Harem Parties it has been a full year of dancing and the opportunity to see some of our students performing for the first time. Our teachers and troupes have also been active in the wider Belly Dance Community attending, teaching and dancing at festivals from Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and even as far away as France.

We have been blessed to host some fantastic workshops this year with our Performance Skills Workshop with Regan and Shamira in June, a weekend of workshops in September with the fabulous Melusina and the Classical Indian Hindu Temple Dance Workshop with Shakti in November. As well as our wide variety of classes on offer each term we believe it is important to offer extra workshops with visiting artists who are professionals in their field. These workshops are designed to grow your skills, extend your repertoire and of course for you to have some fun!

2013 promises to be another full year of dancing and fun starting with Term 1 which is offering some great classes in Belly Dance, Bollywood, Tribal Belly Dance and Yoga. You can find the new timetable and enrolment form with all the information about the new classes on the “Classes” tab. Our new term starts on Monday February 4 and you have until Friday January 25 to take advantage of the Early Bird Rates. Please make sure you book in before term starts to secure your place in the classes of your choice.

If 7 weeks is way too long without dance and yoga then check out our Summer Classes on offer in January, you can find all the dates and times for Summer Classes in 2013 under the “Events” tab.

Thank you to all our dedicated teachers, students, family and friends for their support in 2012, it has been a pleasure being a part of such a wonderful Dance Community, we are looking forward to an even better 2013. Keep an eye on our Website, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube pages for the latest news, events, photos, videos and blogs.

On behalf of all the Teachers at Belly Dance Arabesque we wish you a wonderful Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year.
