It’s not all about the belly!

Belly Dancing is not all about the belly as the name may suggest, it is about so much more. It is true that there are a lot of movements that work the belly and the core muscles but it may be more accurate to say that it is a dance encompassing the whole body, mind and spirit.

There is no doubt about the effect it has on the women that connect and fall in love with Belly Dance. Raqs Sharqi as it is also known is an ancient dance that was done by women for women to celebrate birth, love, marriage, joy, sorrow and everyday life. While it can be sensuous to look at, Belly Dance is a way for women to connect and move their bodies in ways they never have before. It empowers them to find their true self, sometimes the one that is hidden from their everyday life where movement and self expression are not always encouraged.

Taking a Belly Dance class does not mean you have to show your belly or ever perform on a stage or for an audience. Taking a Belly Dance class is about connecting with yourself, both your physical body and your inner spirit. There is no pressure to be perfect, no pressure to look a certain way and you can learn at your own pace. What you will find is a dance that has a deep history and connection with women but most of all you will find yourself!
